About Me

Welcome to The Melanin Perspective, Sis!

My name is Khala Simmons (Pronounced Kayla, not Ka-holla, smh) and I’m from Columbia, South Carolina! I’m 22 years old and a recent college grad. I have a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and a minor in Mass Media! Writing has always been a strong skill and passion of mine, I just never knew how I would use it. God gave me the vision of a self-development empire that caters to Black Women in 2018, but I didn’t know what all that would entail, so I left the idea alone for a while. Then everything changed. It was on that faithful day of February 17, 2019 that my passion and my vision became one! And yes, I know the exact date because I have a journal that’s very official where I date literally every entry. After months of research, writing content, and a lot back and forth getting the logistics together, The Melanin Perspective finally launched on July 27, 2019!

I am sharing my journey with Mental Health, Emotional Intelligence, and Physical Well-being. This is my public diary, my safe haven, and hopefully it will become one for all of you, as well. I am so excited to be shining a spotlight on these topics, and I pray that me sharing my perspective will prompt not only open-ended discussions on your end, but progressive action as well. Who knows, maybe one day, when you’ve made the decision to get your ish together, you’ll be featured on here as the Melanin Boujee Boss of the Week. So, let’s get to work, Sis!
